A Stardew Valley player recently shared an incredible moment from their adventure in the mines when they managed to obtain two Prismatic Shards from a single mob. This rare event has left other players stunned and, understandably, envious of such extreme luck.
The mines in Stardew Valley are a treasure trove, but they come with dangers. While mining itself poses little risk, the monsters lurking in the caverns can be deadly. However, these same creatures also drop valuable items, ranging from useful farm ingredients to exceptionally rare loot like the Prismatic Shard. Securing even one shard in a run is rare enough, but getting two from the same mob is almost unheard of.
The Unbelievable Double Drop
Reddit user Hoakkin posted a clip of their run in the mines, showing the moment they killed a Cave Larvae on an infested level, only to be rewarded with two Prismatic Shards. Their shock is evident as they pause to inspect their inventory twice, unsure how to react to the rare drop.
Prismatic Shards have a minuscule 0.5% drop rate from enemies near the end of the mines, making this double drop an astonishing event. Some fans speculated that modifiers, such as the Burglar’s Ring, which boosts drop chances and allows double drops, could have been in play. However, obtaining the ring requires defeating 500 Dust Sprites, and it seems unlikely that the player had already completed that challenge, as they were just finishing a quest to kill 30 Duggies.
What Makes This Drop Even More Impressive
Another possible reason for the double drop could be the Monster Compendium, which gives a 3% boost to double loot drops. However, the player didn’t specify whether they had these modifiers. Regardless of the modifiers, this event highlights how rare and exciting such drops can be in Stardew Valley.
Prismatic Shards are incredibly valuable in Stardew Valley, as they can be gifted to most villagers, used to unlock the powerful Galaxy Sword, or saved for other high-value uses.
