In Pokemon GO, becoming Lucky Friends with another trainer can offer several benefits, especially when trading Pokémon. To unlock Lucky Friends status, you must first reach the Best Friends level with another player. Lucky Pokémon obtained from trades with Lucky Friends have lower Stardust costs for powering up, perform better in battles, and feature a shimmering effect.
How To Become Lucky Friends in Pokemon GO
There are several Friendship levels in Pokemon GO—Good Friend, Great Friend, Ultra Friend, and Best Friend. Here’s how to build your Friendship levels:
- Add Friends: Exchange Trainer Codes to send or accept friend requests.
- Send Gifts: Spin PokeStops or Gyms to collect Gifts and send them to friends for items and Pokémon GO postcards. Some gifts include Eggs with Alolan Pokémon.
- Raid Together: Participating in raids or Gym battles with friends will increase your Friendship level and unlock bonuses. You can read more about raiding strategies to improve your success.
- Trade Pokémon: Trading Pokémon helps raise your Friendship level. Higher Friendship levels reduce Stardust costs for trades.
For additional tips on how to raise your friendship levels quickly, check out this Friendship Level Guide. Friendship levels can only increase once per day per friend, and reaching Best Friends takes months of daily interaction. To maximize XP, use a Lucky Egg before reaching Ultra or Best Friends, as you’ll earn 200,000 XP for becoming Best Friends with the egg active.
Becoming Lucky Friends
Once you reach Best Friends, there’s a chance to become Lucky Friends by continuing daily interactions. Although there’s no guaranteed method to becoming Lucky Friends, repeating the activities listed above increases your odds. However, Lucky Friends status is temporary and only lasts until you complete a Lucky Trade. For more details on Lucky Pokémon mechanics, visit this comprehensive guide.
