Larian Studios has unveiled the three most popular Origin characters that players chose as their primary avatars in Baldur’s Gate 3. As the game recently marked the one-year anniversary of its PC launch, it continues to maintain its popularity, remaining one of the most played games worldwide.
One of the key factors behind Baldur’s Gate 3’s success is its exceptional cast of characters. These brilliantly-written characters are brought to life through award-winning performances. Typically, players encounter these Origin characters as optional party members during their adventures, but they also have the option of playing as them.
Baldur’s Gate 3’s Most Popular Origin Characters
In celebration of the game’s one-year milestone, Larian Studios shared some fascinating statistics, including the most popular Origin characters chosen by players. According to Larian:
- Astarion was chosen by 1.21 million players as their avatar.
- Gale was picked by 1.20 million players.
- Shadowheart was the choice for 0.86 million players.
Astarion, portrayed by Neil Newbon, has emerged as one of the most beloved characters in Baldur’s Gate 3, making it no surprise that he tops the list. Gale and Shadowheart are also fan favorites, though some may be surprised that Karlach didn’t make it into the top three.
Custom Characters vs. Origin Characters
Despite the popularity of these Origin characters, the majority of Baldur’s Gate 3 players preferred to create their own custom characters. Larian’s data shows that over 93% of players opted to create a custom character, with 15% of those choosing the Dark Urge as their character background.
Top-Picked Classes and Races
In addition to the most-picked Origin characters, Larian also disclosed the most popular classes and races among players. The Paladin class emerged as the top choice, while Elf was the most-picked race. On the other hand, the Cleric class and Halfling race were the least popular among players.
