Despite its success and popularity as Sony’s largest PC game launch, co-op third-person shooter Helldivers 2 has faced persistent challenges, including login issues and problems with rewards tracking. The developer, Arrowhead Game Studios, attempted to address these issues with patch 01.000.005 on Steam released on January 12. However, the update, intended to improve login problems, ended up causing performance issues. In response, Arrowhead decided to roll back the patch, ensuring that the mission reward fix remains unaffected.
In the patch notes for update 01.000.005, Arrowhead Game Studios assured players of compensation for lost rewards through an increased reward event. Since much of Helldivers 2’s progression relies on mission rewards, the issue had significant consequences for players aiming to enhance their avatars.
Additionally, on February 13, Arrowhead released a patch for the PS5 version, addressing server capacity, login capacity progression, and mission rewards. Although similar to the PC patch, Arrowhead expressed confidence that the PS5 version wouldn’t encounter performance issues. The developer is actively investigating the performance problems reported by PC users following the previous day’s build.
Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt previously apologized to players, acknowledging the server challenges in handling the high volume of players after last week’s launch. Meanwhile, Helldivers 2 players have organically established an « unspoken » co-op etiquette.
